The 10-Minute Break

Ever had one of those lightbulb moments while doing something completely routine? You know, like when you’re driving to work or washing the dishes? I had one of those the other day, and it completely changed my approach to a project I was struggling with.

I was deep into a bookkeeping clean-up for a client in QuickBooks. It was one of those situations where the more I tried to make sense of the mess, the more frustrated I got. The pressure was on to get it done, but no matter how much I pushed, I couldn’t get the pieces to fall into place.

So I decided to step away and take a walk. It wasn’t easy—I felt that deadline pressure—but I knew my brain needed a reset.

And guess what happened? Right in the middle of my walk—BAM! The solution was suddenly crystal clear. I knew exactly how to tackle the problem, and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t seen it earlier.

Stepping Away

This reminded me of something we all know but sometimes ignore: stepping away can be more effective than trying to power through a problem.

I’m sharing this because I have a feeling some of you might be in a similar spot with your own bookkeeping challenges

If you’re putting off dealing with a sticky issue in your own bookkeeping, or maybe you’re struggling with your QuickBooks setup for your business, stop reading for a moment and give yourself permission to take a real break. Seriously—right now, take a 10-minute break.

Go for a walk in your neighborhood. Take a quick drive to the post office. Or simply sit outside and breathe in some fresh air.

Recharge Your Brain

Recharging Your Brain

Give your brain the space it needs, and you might find that the solution comes to you faster and more easily. Plus, you’ll feel a lot better than you would if you kept trying to force it.

As an entrepreneur myself, I get it—it’s hard to take breaks when there’s so much on your plate. But sometimes, the best thing you can do is to step away, recharge, and come back with a fresh perspective. I hope this gives you the little nudge you need to take that break and find your clarity.

Of course, if after that break you’re still feeling stuck, reach out. Whether you’re a small business owner here in Maryland, Pennsylvania, or anywhere else in the US, we can help.  Contact us today for a consultation.

P.S. I’m curious—what’s your go-to mindless task when you need a breakthrough? Washing dishes, folding laundry, walking the dog? I’d love to know—drop me a reply and tell me what works for you!
